Inclusion and Diversity

INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY AT MONTAIR

Diversity means valuing the unique offerings that each of us brings to the Montair community. There are many ways that we define ourselves as individuals—gender, ethnicity, religion, culture, socioeconomic status, ability, age, parental status, and a host of other factors that make up our identities. Emphasizing diversity teaches our children to appreciate differences among people as much as similarities. And inclusion encourages us to reach out and engage every member of our school community so that everyone feels welcome and valued.

Montair’s Inclusion and Diversity Committee (IDC) organizes a range of initiatives throughout the year to promote these goals. These include:

FESTIVAL AROUND THE WORLD

Held in January, the annual festival celebrates our school’s diverse cultural backgrounds with an evening of food, music, dance, and art and is open to the community.

WORDS MATTER WEEK (MMW)

WMW is a district-wide initiative to promote the importance of kindness and word choice. It is held during the first week of February. Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities to spread kindness throughout their school and community.

Please join us on this journey. When we teach our children to hear and include more voices, we truly enrich them and their world.
