Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at montair

We strive to amplify diverse experiences, perspectives, and representation. These are essential elements to creating a school community where everyone feels welcome and valued. Diversity means valuing the unique offerings that each of us brings to the Montair community. There are many ways that we define ourselves as individuals-ethnicity, gender, religion, culture, socioeconomic status, ability, age, parental status, and a host of other factors that make up our identities. Emphasizing diversity teaches our children to appreciate differenes among people as much as similitarities. Equity means creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background. It involves recognizing that students have different needs and challenges and providing the necessary suport for each indificual to thrive. Inclusion encourages us to reach out and engage every member of our school community so that everyone feels welcome and valued. All of our children deserve to be validated, affirmed, and included by peers, staff, and the community.

DEI Committee

The PTA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) aims to create a community where parents, students, and staff have a sense of belonging and camaraderie at Montair through initiatives such as Bullying Prevention, awareness months, Words Matter Week, and our Around the World multicultural festival.

Words Matter Week: Words Matter Week is a district-wide initiative to promote the importance of kindness and word choice. Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities to spread kindness throughout their school and community. Please join us on this journey. When we teach our children to hear and include more voices, we truly enrich them and their world.

Montair Around the World: The multicultural festival celebrates our school's diverse cultural backgrounds with an evening of food, music, dance, and art. This event is open to the community.
